A project version is a snapshot of a project at a reporting date. When a project is evaluated over time, for example in a quarterly review, an annual report or a prognosis for a year, the version keeps the figures as they were then and makes them available at any moment. ## Creating a Version A version has a name, a category and the reporting date. The category groups versions, with values such as quarterly review, business plan, review and draft. Creating a version stores the current data of the project, and all derived data is updated. The time this takes depends on the complexity of the project and on the number of project version views. ## Project Version Views A project version view says which view of the application is stored with a version. The data of the view is saved in a table, for the historical moment of the project version, so the reports can show it later. These tables are called replicas or cubes. A project version view holds: - the name of the view. The name begins with `bubsp` when the view supports time travel. A view with a name beginning with `bubs_` does not, and its content is undetermined; - the name of the table in which the data is stored, preferably ending in `_p`; - an indicator "Active"; - an indicator "Project Based". If it is on, only the data of the project of the version is stored. Otherwise the view holds all data; - an optional selection of columns, as a regular expression, and an explanation. The system fills in the date until which the table structure is up to date, the date the contents were last filled and whether the contents are valid. When a view changes, its table is filled or rebuilt only if needed and if the view remains active. A view can be made inactive, changed and made active again without a recalculation of everything. ## Time Travel The application is generated with a history of every row. Together with the project versions, this gives the ability to look at the data as it was, called time travel. The database context holds the variables used to debug time travel over project versions.
