The window "Test Database" opens every data container of a database the way logging on opens it, and closes it again, one at a time. It answers the question whether a definition connects before anybody logs on with it. The window is available from release 28.0. The window is reached with "Test Connection" in the menu of a tile of [[Invantive Query Tool Multi-Platform/Discover Databases|Discover Databases]] and with "Test..." in the [[Invantive Query Tool Multi-Platform/Database Editor|Database Editor]]. The title names the database as `<group>\<database>`: ![[20261008-qtm-database-test.png]] ## The Rows The window opens with one row for every data container, each in the state "Not tested". A row shows the name of the data container, its alias, the duration of the test, the state and the version which the platform reported. Nothing is tested until "Test" is chosen. The test then goes through the data containers one after the other, and a row reads "Testing..." while its turn lasts. The state of a row is one of the following: - "Connected": the data container opened. - "Not Connected": the data container did not open. - "Cancelled": the test was stopped before this data container was done. - "Not tested": the test did not reach the data container yet. A data container which is handed over by the Invantive Credentials Server is shown as a row of the "Invantive Credentials Server" with the number of data containers it handed over. The data containers underneath are marked as "Handed over by the Credentials Server at log-on." and are not opened one by one. ## The Details Under the rows stands the pane "Selected Data Container Details". It shows what the row which is selected reported: - "Data Container", "State" and "Duration". - "Version" is the version which the platform reported, or "No Version". - "Message Code", "Kind of Request" and "Natural Key" appear when the platform or the product gave an explanation, together with "Error" and its full text. Before a row is selected, the pane says "Select a data container to see what it reported." ## Buttons The window has four buttons: - "Test" starts the test, and tests again when pressed again. - "Cancel Test" stops a test which is running. - "Copy Details" puts the details of the selected row on the clipboard, to paste into a message to support. - "Close" closes the window. A test is a log-on. Against a production platform it leaves an audit row and takes a slice of the rate limit budget, exactly as logging on does. A failed test never keeps a definition from being saved: a definition can be correct while the network is unavailable.
