The connection is shown in the "Connection" group of the ribbon as `<group>\<database>`, and the split button behind that name holds "Connect", "Disconnect" and the settings of the connection. ## Changing Database "Connect" opens the log-on window again, with the databases the [[Settings]] file offers; see [[Invantive Query Tool/Log on|Log on]]. Choosing another database replaces the connection of the whole window: the documents stay open and their text is untouched, but [[Invantive Query Tool/Available Objects|Available Objects]] is rebuilt for the new connection, the partition menu is refilled, and the syntax highlighting follows the vocabulary of what is now connected. What was already fetched stays in the panels. The rows in "Results" are the rows of the statement which fetched them, whichever database that was, until the next statement replaces them. ## Disconnecting "Disconnect" closes the connection and leaves the product open. It is what is used before a laptop is closed or a platform is worked on elsewhere; a statement executed afterwards asks to connect again. Disconnecting also ends what the connection held: the session of the platform, the tables of an in-memory container such as the [[Invantive Query Tool/Sample Database|sample database]], and the counters shown by [[Invantive Query Tool/Describe Object|Describe Object]] under "Statistics". The [[Invantive Query Tool/History|History]] panel is not one of those - it outlives the session and the run. ## Reconnecting by Itself A connection which is lost mid-statement - a laptop which slept, a platform which restarted, a token which expired - is re-established by the engine where the platform allows it, and the statement is tried again where trying again is safe. A statement which changes data is not retried on its own for that reason. Where the reconnection fails, the message says which data container refused and why. The [[Invantive Query Tool/Trace|Trace]] panel holds the exchange leading up to it, and the message code is what a question on the [forums](https://forums.invantive.com) is best built around.
