The "File" tab of the ribbon opens a menu which acts on documents and on the application as a whole:

## The Entries
- "New" opens an empty document, named `New.sql`, `New 2.sql` and so on until it is saved.
- "Open" opens a `.sql` file as a document of its own.
- "Save" writes the document being edited back to the file it came from; a document which has none is asked for a name first. A tab whose name carries an asterisk holds changes which have not been saved.
- "Save As" writes the document to another file and continues editing that one.
- "Print" prints the text of the document.
- "Close" closes the document being edited, asking first where it holds unsaved changes.
- "About" states the release and the build the application was made from, which is what a question on the [forums](https://forums.invantive.com) is answered fastest with.
"Save" also sits on the quick access toolbar above the ribbon tabs, where it is reachable whichever tab is open.
## Documents Reopen by Themselves
The documents which are open when the application ends are opened again at the next start. A run which must not do that - a demonstration, a screenshot, a machine somebody else is watching - is started with `/nodocuments`; see [[Invantive Query Tool/Command Line Options|Command Line Options]].
