Every installation carries a sample database of its own, which needs no credentials, no network and no platform to be reachable: the `Dummy` driver. It holds a set of demonstration tables in memory and answers statements against them like any other data container, which makes it the place to try a statement, to reproduce a question for the [forums](https://forums.invantive.com), and to learn the product without touching a customer's data.
## Reaching It
A data container of the provider `Dummy` is added to a database in the [[Settings]] file, and the database is then connected to like any other; the container asks for no user name and no password. In a statement the container is named after the `@`:
```sql
select * from Projects@dummy
```
The container has one catalog, `Dummy`, four [[Invantive Query Tool/Partitions|partitions]] of which `1` is selected by default, and the demonstration tables in the schema `Demo`. The [[Invantive Query Tool/Available Objects|Available Objects]] tree shows them all:

## The Tables
The demonstration tables carry the data of a fictitious project organisation, which is why their columns read as a project administration would:
- projects and their structure: `Projects`, `ProjectPhases`, `ProjectAllocations`, `ProjectParticipations`, `ProjectAutorisations`, `Tasks`;
- parties: `Persons`, `Organisations`, `Banks`;
- money: `Invoices`, `InvoiceLines`, `ConceptInvoiceLines`, `Budgets`, `BudgetMovements`, `ContractBudgets`, `Revenues`, `PurchaseOrders`, `PriceLists`, `PriceListLines`, `Units`;
- planning: `CashflowProjections`, `CashflowProjectionLines`, `CashflowProjectionDailyLines`, `TimeSheets`;
- documents and communication: `DmsDocuments`, `PhoneCalls`.
The tables are small - `Projects` holds eleven rows - so a statement over them answers in milliseconds. That is the point: what is being tried is the statement, not the platform.
## What It Is Good For
- Trying the syntax of a statement, a function or a [[Invantive UniversalSQL/Grammar/Statement Types/PSQL Block|PSQL block]] without waiting on a platform.
- Reproducing a question in a form somebody else can run: a statement over `Projects@dummy` runs identically on every installation, where a statement over a customer's administration cannot be shared at all.
- Looking at the panels of the product - the result grid, the [[Invantive Query Tool/Progress|Progress]] picture, the [[Invantive Query Tool/Connection Monitor|Connection Monitor]] - with real traffic and without a licence for a platform.
- Taking screenshots for documentation, which is what the pictures in this manual are made with.
Beside the demonstration tables the container carries a handful of tables which exist to be awkward on purpose - a table whose name holds a space and a quotation mark, a table of binary values, a table with row-level security - and which the product's own tests use.
