## Syntax ```mermaid %%{init: { 'theme': 'base', 'flowchart': { 'padding': '7', 'nodeSpacing': '20', 'rankSpacing': '20' }, 'themeVariables': { 'fontSize': '11px', 'fontFamily': 'Arial' } }}%% flowchart LR Start((START)) --> CURRENT_DATE[CURRENT_DATE]:::quoted CURRENT_DATE --> End((END)) ``` ## Purpose The `CURRENT_DATE` SQL function returns the current date in local time at the device where Invantive UniversalSQL runs, without a time of day. It is written without parentheses, as the SQL standard writes it, and returns the same value as `trunc(sysdate)`. Within one SQL statement every occurrence returns the same date, taken from the same moment as described in [[NOW]]. See also [[NOW]], [[LOCALTIME]] and [[UTC]]. Returns: current date. ## Examples The following example retrieves the current date and the date of one week ago; the actual values differ per day: ```sql select to_char(current_date, 'YYYY-MM-DD') , to_char(current_date - 7, 'YYYY-MM-DD') --------------------- 2026-11-05 2026-10-29 ```
